July 12, 2010 - Well it's been quite some time.... sorry. I didn't realize it had been that long though. Ella had her kindergarten physical today. She has really grown. She's up 4 lbs and 3 inches since her last exam at 4. We didn't go for a 5 year checkup because they told us that November was too early for the following school year. She still has to have her eye exam. She's already had her dental exam and has to have a bit of work done. She had to have three shots today and actually did really well considering. She's walking around here like a little old lady, though, because she says her legs hurt. I took her to Dairy Queen afterwards since she did so good. We leave for Missouri this weekend. I'm so excited! My nephew, Landon, is coming with my Dad and Shirley. This will be the first that Becky, her family and Jeff have seen him other than pictures. Ella and I got to see him a couple years ago when we flew down to Texas.
January 18, 2010 - Happy Birthday Aunt Maggie!!
Today I gathered some of the pieces that went with the toys Ella gathered this weekend and some more baby toys. I ended up filling up another big ziploc bag (19"). I picked up Ella from school and we headed over to Goodwill. I told her again how proud I am of her and told her she should be proud of herself for thinking of other kids. She told me that her heart was pumping because I said that. LOL I told her that we could go to Old McDonald's since she did such a good thing. McDonald's has Alvin and the Chipmunk toys right now and so far she has only gotten three Brittney's (she put the one she didn't open in with the toys for Goodwill). Grandma has gotten her some of the others but she hasn't been able to give them to her yet. We went to three McDonald's and they were all out of the Chipmunk toys. She was so disappointed.
January 16, 2010 - Ella decided (on her own) today that she was going to gather some of her toys to give to kids that don't have any. She ended up getting enough to fill one of those huge ziplock bags (32"). Some of the things she put in were things she had just been playing with the day before. She was cute, before putting the stuff in the bag she sorted it all by baby, girl and boy. She was going to put in some of her princesses and doll house stuff but decided she still wanted those to play with herself. She was so serious as she was working on this. I'm so proud of her!
January 14, 2009 - I got a call from Ella's daycare this morning. She tripped over a pillow and landed on her nose. She ended up with a pretty good nose bleed. They got it stopped and were watching her for swelling and headache. When I picked her up they told me that she hadn't complained all day of anything hurting. As much blood as they told me there was she only got a couple drops on the inside of her hoodie.
January 10, 2010 - today Ella and I didn't even get dressed. She decided about 3:00 that she wanted to but then ended up coming out with just a different pair of jammies. She played with her princesses and castle and I played on my laptop. Daddy came home, watched football in the bedroom and ended up taking a nap. Ella and I played her new ABC Game and then she played it with her two Pet Shop plush toys. She did bug me every hour or so about can we do this or that and talked nonstop the entire day... most of the time in her normal loud volumn. Other than that it was a nice relaxing day. I'm glad we didn't have to go anywhere since it's so cold out right now.
January 3, 2010 - I ended up with a fever on Thursday so Ella and I didn't go to Cullom with daddy. The fever broke Friday afternoon. Saturday Ella and I drove down to Cullom. I'm glad we did instead of driving straight to Aunt Becky's. I forgot that Uncle John and Aunt Katie were going to be there. WE GOT TO HAVE MONICAL'S! It was yummy! Sunday morning Ella and I went over to grandma K's to get her gift for Madi and then we headed to Aunt Becky's for Madi's bday party. She had received gifts from her dad's family on xmas Eve so it was just me, Ella and Uncle Jeff there. Madi didn't care. She was happy to finally have her pretend birthday and to get cake.
December 27, 2009 - we had a great christmas. Daddy forgot to bring our tree home from Cullom. My friend Karen had just bought a set of three little trees and was only using the littlest one so she said we could borrow the other two. There was a 4' and a 3'. I figured we would just put up the 4' but as I was fluffing up the branches Ella wasn't happy because it wasn't fluffing up enough. I put up the 3' right next to the other tree and it made it look fluffy enough that Ella was happy. She really liked decorating the trees especially putting on the ornaments that she had made in the past.
Ella and I made cookies and reindeer food while daddy worked on Christmas Eve. After daddy got home we went to the see the new Alvin and the Chipmunks movie. Ella laughed and sang through most of the movie. Before bed we went down to the first floor and out the back to put out the reindeer food. Then we put a couple cookies on a plate and set them out under the tree for santa. We were surprised that Ella slept in some Christmas morning. The first thing she did when she woke up was check to see if santa had been there. It was great to see the look on her face when she saw that there were more presents under the trees. The best part for me was when she got to the orange in her stocking. She was just amazed that santa gave her a real orange. She had the biggest look of surprise on her face and she just grinned from ear to ear. The best part for Ella was the Cinderella castle that santa brought. She was really surprised when she unwrapped it because both mommy and daddy had told her no she couldn't have it because we just don't have the room. The box had handle holes on the side and she laughed when she looked in and realized that there were pieces that would need to be put together. She just thought that was so funny that I was going to have to put it together. She doesn't realize that I really do like to put things together. lol Ella's big give from mom and dad was a Leapster 2. After Ella finished opening presents, we ate breakfast, got dressed and headed to Cullom.
After getting to Cullom, we rode with Grandma and Papa S to Flanagan for xmas with Papa's family. It was weird with great-grandma S not being there. It was good to see everyone though. We don't get to see Papa's family that often. Ella played her Leapster while the adults talked.
On Saturday we had xmas with Grandma and Papa S, Aunt Missy, Uncle Wu, Bailee and Bryce. Bailee and Bryce both got lap tops while Ella got lots of stuff she had on her list I sent to grandma. All three kids were definately happy. Aunt Missy was afraid that Ella wouldn't be happy because she got her princesses she realized later that Ella already had. Didn't bother Ella one bit. She plays with one being the mom and the other being the daughter. It was funny that night Ella played with her princess with Bryces pirate ship.
On Sunday we had xmas with Grandma K, Aunt Becky, Uncle Bob, Jacob, Kayla, Savannah, Madi, Uncle Don and Garrett. Emma was sick so Aunt Shelly stayed home with her. Grandma's place is small and there were a lot of people there but the kids sure do enjoy when we are together. The kids all enjoyed everything they got. Jacob is such a dork. We got a hoody from grandma and put it on. He didn't realize that he somehow got the cord from the xmas tree. He was all tangled up. He couldn't get undone because he was laughing too much. It was nice for both Jacob and Garrett that the other was there. Jacob with his food allergies and Garrett with his diabetes they both had to bring their own food and couldn't eat what the rest of us were eating. It was nice for them to have someone else there in the same boat.
After we left Grandma's we drove over to Aunt Missy's to have xmas with Grandma and Papa R. Uncle Wu had to work so he wasn't there. Ella loves that Bailee has pet shop stuff that she can play with. She has some that Ella doesn't have. She was real happy that she got Monsters vs Aliens from grandma and papa. We didn't get to stay long because we had to drive all the way back to Naperville and it was already late when we got there.
December 6, 2009 - Aunt Becky and family (minus Kayla) came up last night. We (minus Jeff and Bob) went to the movies and saw Planet 51. It was cute.
Today we went to the Donnelley kids Xmas party at the Enchanted Castle in Lombard. They close it to only Donnelley and their guests from 9am - 1pm. The go-karts, laser tag, bumper cars, miniature golf and blow up jumpy things are all free during that time. They also give each person a thing of coins to play the games. It's a fun time. They have the kid maze tunnel thing that Ella usually won't climb but she actually got up the nerve to do it this time since Madi and Savannah were doing it. She even when across the one bridge that was real shaky. Savannah did too and she wouldn't normally go across anything that moves. They have a couple of those mirrors that distort you when you look in them. Becky and I laughed more than the girls did. Ella was having a hard time listening and didn't stay where I told her to. She ended up getting a little too close to the machine that was counting our tickets and it pulled her hair in. Jeff had to grab her and pull her back. Luckily it didn't grab too much but it was enough to hurt. Poor thing. Jacob and Savannah and Ella and I went on the go-karts. Ella loved it and laughed the whole time. Savannah didn't care for Jacob's driving. She told me she was scared and screamed the whole time.
December 2, 2009 - Tonight's conversation:
Ella - I want to be a mom when I grow up
Mom - I thought you didn't want to have kids
Ella - Well I do now
Mom - Are you going to get married when you grow up?
Ella - To a man?
Mom - Yes
Ella - No way
I forgot to mention that Ella read seven or eight books to me the other night with little to no help. They were new books that I got her for her birthday and this was the first time we read them together. My smart girl! Last night we read the last few books in the series but she did a lot of guessing with these. They were a little harder.
December 1, 2009 - I said something about being old tonight. Usually Ella tells me I'm not old because I don't have crinkles on my face. Tonight it was... yes you are getting old because you are almost a grandma. You are almost a grandma because I'm getting bigger and I'm almost a mom. I'm almost six so I'm almost a mom. OK so I don't want her to wait or have to wait as long as I had to but six, that's a little too soon to become a mom in my book.
November 29, 2009 - Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We did.
Today Ella and I went to see The Nutcraker at the Rialto Theatre in Joliet. I wasn't sure Ella would sit through it but she did good. It wasn't until the end that she started to ask to go home. She asked bunches of questions, of course, when doesn't she! She really wanted to know why they weren't talking and only dancing. lol
November 25, 2009 - I had lunch with Ella today at her school. They didn't let us know until last night that the parents were invited so there were only three moms there for Ella's class and only one or two for the other classes. I didn't tell Ella that I was coming since I did have to go in and ask my boss if I could go. The look on her face was priceless when she saw me. This afternoon after we got home Ella read me a book all by herself. I'm so proud of her and she was so proud to read it to both me and then daddy when he got home. I meant to bring the book with us to Cullom so she could read it to grandma but I forgot it.
November 22, 2009 - Ella's bday party was today. She had a blast with her cousins and made out like a bandit gift wise. Thank you everyone for celebrating her birthday with us.
November 18, 2009 - I can't believe my baby girl is 5yrs old! Where has the time gone? Last night Ella and I stopped at Jewel and picked out cupcakes for school and ordered her cake for her party this weekend. She was so excited this morning to show Ms Rebecca her cupcakes. After we got home tonight, she of course wanted to open presents. She was so excited with everything she recieved.
November 16, 2009 - We went to Red Robin tonight with Aunt Maggie for Ella's bday. Ella's bday dinner.... corndog and french fries. There were a couple other people with bdays there tonight. Everytime the waiter and waitresses sang to the bday person Ella just kinda watched and you could see the little wheels turning as she wondered if they would sing to her. Our waiter has noticed that there was a gift for Ella so he asked me if it was ok if they sang to her and brought her a bday sunday. Ella cheezed the whole time they were singing. She's so funny. Aunt Maggie got her a princess DS game and an Ariel and Aurora magnetic play set. She was so busy playing with the magnets that she only had a few bites of her sunday.
November 11, 2009 - As Ella and I were leaving the daycare today her teacher asked her if she told me. Ella looked at like she didn't know what she was talking about. She asked her what she learned today. Ella looked at me and said, d a n. Ms Kristy asked her what that spelled and Ella said Dan. Then Ella said c a n. Ms Kristy asked her what that spelled and Ella said can. She spelled pan, man and van for me. In the car she told me p o p. I asked her what that spelled and she told me poptart. lol. She was so excited to tell daddy when we got home that she can spell. I wrote all the 'an' words I could think of and she read them all to me except ran. She had trouble putting the r and the an sounds together. Ms Kristy told me she'll be reading the first phonics books soon if she keeps going at the rate she's going.
October 31, 2009 - Ella decided to be Ariel again this year for Halloween. After dance today we drove down to Cullom and then over to Odell for Bailee's basketball game. Ella had fun trick-or-treating. We walked around a large part of Cullom. Her bag got so heavy she had trouble carrying it. After trick-or-treating we went up to the community building for the costume judging. Ella won best cartoon character in the 4 year olds. She was so excited.
October 30, 2009 - Happy birthday this week to Daniel, Joey and Bryce!
Ella told me in the car yesterday that her friend at school sucks her fingers. She said I don't know how to get her to stop. I just don't know what to say to her. I don't know what to say to her about it.
October 24, 2009 - Jenny had to fly in for a meeting for work and is staying at Aunt Sue's. She brought her son, Finn, and daughter, Maisie. Aunt Karen and Vern are still here from last weekend. We all decided that since it has been a long time since we've last seen Jenny we all need to head over to Aunt Sue's and see her. Becky and family, mom, Ella and I were all there. Aunt Karen's friend Darlene was also there. We haven't seen her in forever either. The kids all had a blast playing together. Maisie is such a mommy's girl (just like Ella) and really didn't want any of us strangers to hold her. Kayla and I each got to hold her for just a tiny bit. We walked over to the park that's not far from Aunt Sue's. I love watching Jacob with Ella. He ALWAYS gets her laughing which gets himself laughing. It was fun watching all the kids play together. I sure do wish we didn't live so far apart from each other.
October 16, 2009 - I took a 1/2 day of vacation at the last minute today so Ella and I could head down to have lunch with family. Uncle Sam, Aunt Karen and Vern came in from Tennessee. Shannon came in from California. Unfortunately they all came in for the funeral of Aunt Karen's best friend. We met at Craker Barrel in Bourbonnais. Aunt Sue, Dara and Jacob (her fiance), Marcia Rhodes, her daughter Amanda and Amanda's new foster son, Cynthia and Norm Read and Annette and Jerry Claus and their daughter Beth were all there as well. It was great to see everyone. Ella really didn't know what to think about Cynthia and Norm's last name also being Read.
