10/21/07 ~ Ethan is three and Austin has his first tooth.  Life is a constant roller coaster and we enjoy the ride most of the time.  Ethan loved his birthday party this year and keeps asking when his birthday will be again.  He always asks if it is this Saturday...what a bummer that it will be another whole year before he gets to do it again. He is really ready to blow out the candles again!  Austin is still eating and growing.  He weighed 18 lbs, 6 oz at this 4 month checkup that happened at almost 5 months thanks to ear infections and allergies.  He is a much happier baby and seems to be very proud of his new tooth.  I discovered it this morning during breakfast and Ethan was ready to give him some bacon.  He is convinced that Austin is finally getting bigger because he can take a bath in the big bathtub and has a tooth.  He's really ready to have someone to play with other than mommy.  I seem to have limits that he is convinced won't be there with a little brother. Austin adores Ethan and everything he does.  He cranes his neck to keep an eye on Ethan and cracks up when Ethan laughs.  It is wonderful to watch both boys grow and change.  I can't believe that three years has passed and Austin already has a tooth.  Time flies!

7/19/07 ~ Our exciting life continues as Ethan cleans and Austin eats!  Austin had his 2 month checkup last Thursday and he weighed 13 lbs and 6 oz.  He is now sleeping 7-11 hours a night although he still has trouble getting a very good nap during the day.  The swing is our best friend during the day and luckily not someplace that Ethan thinks looks like fun.  Ethan keeps trying to remove Austin from his bouncy chair or bumbo seat because "it is my turn"  Austin is a big boy and Ethan actually has decided that his muscles aren't big enough to pick him up yet, so we are safe for at least a day :)  Ethan is continually telling Austin all the things he will get to do when he gets bigger ~ such as ~ drink apple juice, ride daddy's lawn mower, clean with the mop, eat ice cream and hot dogs, play with his giraffe and on and on.  It is cute to hear all  of the things that Ethan claims are treats of being 2!

6/25/07 ~ What a fun trip to Heber Springs!  Austin turned six weeks old and things are starting to come into focus.  He is smiling and trying to talk to us.  He has slept 5-7 hours the last 4 nights (hopefully this is a trend that will continue) and is really enjoying his new formula.  He is looking around to find voices and really likes to hear Ethan which is a good thing considering the amount of silence in the house when Ethan is around.

Ethan had a blast playing in the pool, throwing rocks and swimming in the lake, fishing with Papa and having so many fun people around.  Hopefully this week won't be too much of a let down for him :)  Oma returns from Germany today, so that should help keep his mind off of being with just mommy.  He has been wearing big boy underwear since the 1st and is doing really well.  We've only had a few accidents and he is so proud every time he goes in the potty!  He is also a big helper and loves to try to guess "What is wrong with him?"  He gets the pacifier and tries that.  If that doesn't work, he insists "He's hungry" and finds the bottle.  It's sweet to watch!  More later...I'm sure!

6/8/07 ~ Austin had his 1 month check-up yesterday and all is well.  He weighted 10 lbs and 6 oz and was 22 inches long.  He started out a pound and 6 ounces behind Ethan and has now surpassed him by 4 ounces.  He does love to eat!  He's a good boy and we are just looking forward to when he can smile and play with us.  Ethan keeps finding things that "his baby" will do when he gets bigger. He will play with his giraffe with him and he will sing songs with him and on and on and on.  Ethan never actually stops talking and is quite entertaining most of the time.  He has been helping daddy on the farm and told him "I'm a big boy" and then posed and said "Look at my muscles" when he was able to turn a key on the power unit.  He's a hoot!  I can't imagine what life will be like when I have two talking all of the time :)

01/29/07 ~ Oh, how fast he changes!  He decided to go to big church yesterday.  He said "Ethan be very quiet at church" when I tried to explain that he might rather stay in the nursery because we have to sit still and be very quiet during church.  He was really good and was still whispering after we got home.  He also decided to start wearing big boy underwear yesterday afternoon and has continued with it today.  No accidents as of yet, but he is currently at the farm with daddy . . . crossing my fingers for him.  Everyone told me never say never about anything.  I am bribing him to use the potty at home.  He has been staying dry all day at preschool and then refusing to go at home.  He now has a little jar of M&M's and he gets one every time he goes.  Who'd of thunk that he could go 6 times in 1 hour!

10/15/06 ~ 2 years old already!  He's into everything, saying EVERYTHING and definitely enjoying all the good things in life.  He has been torturing Mattie by throwing her toy duck into his crib every chance he can get it from her.  He then comes to get me, saying "Uh Oh, Mommy."  I lift him into the crib, he throws the duck back out at Mattie and then points a hand at her and says "Please" (as though she is going to throw the duck back at him).  He gets the biggest kick out of the entire ordeal.  We think Mattie has been very patient with him.

We had a big birthday party last Saturday and I hope everyone had a great time.  Ethan has had a blast enjoying all of his presents and he is getting excited about having a "big boy" room.  We are all excited for this change.  Until about 2 weeks ago, he would say "baby" every time anyone called him a big boy :)  He has been told a new baby is on the way and he insists that he wants a "baby sister, yeah."  He has admitted that he will love either and be nice to either.  We hope that sentiment continues.

He had his 2nd annual trip to Pumpkin Hollow yesterday with Oma and Mommy.  He really enjoyed it this year.  We were there early enough that the goats were REALLY hungry.  He didn't actually want to leave the area with the goats because he was a pretty popular guy.  He thought the chickens were fun but they weren't very interested in him.  He enjoyed his pony ride and was a big help in picking out pumpkins.  Oma ended up with 3 pumpkins and 3 mini gourds/pumpkins and Mommy ended up with 3 pumpkins.  I'm sure we'll have pictures when we get the daddy, mommy and baby pumpkins carved.

9/7/06 ~ What a fun Labor Day picnic this year!  Ethan played with Oma while we worked in the BBQ stand and then enjoyed the festivities on Monday.  We started out Monday morning with a parade and he couldn't have been more thrilled that those people threw candy at him.  He would pick up one piece and want someone to open it for him.  He's lucky that Oma was there to take care of him ;)  He was also very glad to have Kerra and Christina there to entertain him and help him collect loot.  I'm afraid his is going to ask for a big brother or sister after having such a good time this weekend.

We took him back Monday night with good intentions of riding rides.  We walked by the rides and looked at all of the kids having a great time, but he couldn't get his eyes off of the "rocks" around the rides.  We handed him a rock and he was as happy as could be.   He did have his first corn dog on a stick and funnel cake, so he did get a little of the experience.  We listened to music with Oma and Melinda while he ate and he would occasionally put down his food to do a little jive motion with his hands.  I think it is his "Wheels on the Bus" motion, but he thinks it works with all good songs.  Life is so much fun!

8/10/06 ~ Oh, how things change in the life of a "nun" year old!  I suppose life moves so fast that I haven't been able to keep journaling our experiences.  We spent the 4th of July weekend in Heber Springs and Ethan had his first experience with snap dragons and sparklers.  Heaven help us all when he was given the sparkler!  Mommy made the mistake of showing him that it is possible to spell a name in smoke and he wanted to try ~ ALL BY HIMSELF!  He had a great time throwing the snap dragons from the first box at Grandma and Grandpa's and figured out he could step on them by the time we got to Papa and Mimi's house.  The 4th of July was definitely a hit!

We spent last weekend in Northwest Arkansas.  Ethan has a new cousin, Connor.  Connor was born on July 27th and came in at 8 lbs and 20 3/4 inches long.  Although Ethan wanted nothing to do with him, Connor is a beautiful baby.  Ethan wouldn't kiss or touch Connor and he told Aunt Erica that he said "Uh Oh" when Connor cried.  Connor didn't seem to mind when Ethan threw a fit because Mom took away his dry erase marker while sitting on Uncle John and Aunt Jen's couch.  It was amazing to see the difference 22 months can make in the life of a child.

Ethan has started putting words together and his favorite expression is now "Don't know" with shrugged shoulders and his hands in front of his chest.  He's asking where people are when he comes back into a room and they aren't there ~ he said "Dadhe go?" or "Bop go?" after they left Fayetteville.  He has somehow turned Grandpa into "Bop", Grandma into "Maaww" and Mimi into "Nene".  It seems that Oma and Papa are the winners with easy names to say although he seems to use them all just the same.  They are all much more fun and jump much faster than Mama or Dadhe :)

6/5/06 ~ We spent our first night together in a motel room and Ethan thought it was GREAT!  We didn't get to Gaston's until 6:30 and he stayed up until after 10:00.  Talk about fun for him!  He could see us in bed in our room and he just giggled and rolled around in his pack'n play.  He actually didn't want to get out of it on Saturday morning . . . he could have played in it for hours.  He slept like a rock at Gaston's, but he hasn't wanted to sleep since we got home.  I think he liked us all being in one room.

He had a great time at Gaston's playing with daddy's family Friday night and Saturday.  They watched planes land and take off, threw rocks into the White River, watched the squirrels and climbed lots of steps.  We stopped by to see Uncle Bill and there was a mule roaming around in his yard!  We tried to help them catch the mule, but we eventually had to leave.  We hope they caught the mule, but he was pretty stubborn.  We ended the trip with a grilled cheese and cherry slush.  He thought that was "mumm"!  Yesterday wasn't nearly as much fun back at home, but the tatoo helped.

5/18/06 ~ We've had a fun and exciting weekend and we are all trying to recover.  Our preschool experience has been fun, but has landed us both sick.  Ethan blessed most people in Fayetteville with a cold :)  I'm just so glad that he doesn't always have a runny nose.  We can deal with it every once and a while.  He loves to blow his nose and thinks it is too fun to unroll the entire roll of toilet paper or empty the box of tissues.  Oh, the simple pleasure in life.

We are so happy for Uncle Cary, Oma's newest and last graduate.  Ethan skipped graduation, but enjoyed the celebration dinner with Oma's family.  We will miss Uncle Cary when he moves to D.C., but what fun must await him and what a great destination to visit.

5/3/06 ~ Ethan's First Day of Preschool.  His goofy mom has been worried about this for weeks and he is SO excited.  He shakes his head that he wants to go to school and he means it.  He took off into the room the first day and never looked back.  I cleaned out our office closet in 4 hours and I knew it would take at least 2 days.  Nervous energy is GREAT sometimes.  Ethan was just as excited to go back the next day and even gave me a kiss before I left.  We have art and he has little friends that run up to him when he comes in the room.  It is too fun.

4/28/06 ~ Wheel of Fortune!  This child does not stand/sit still for ANYTHING, but he has found Wheel of Fortune and he loves it!  He stands in front of the TV and calls out each letter the players call out.  Then he claps and smiles so big when the audience starts to clap.  He gets so tickled after a little bit that he runs and dives into my lap if I'm sitting or legs if I'm standing.  It is absolutely priceless!

4/20/06 ~ 18 months old already and I can't believe it.  He had his checkup yesterday and doesn't have to go back for 6 months.  Dr. Skaug said he is in line for being a smart guy and 5'10", 145 lb when he is all grown up (still a skinny guy).

We spent Easter in Heber Springs and had a wonderful time.  We spent all day Saturday playing with Mimi and Papa and even played with Aunt Trista's friend's baby, Bailey.  She's only five months old, so pointing at her eyes and saying "eyes" was about all the fun Ethan had with her.  He sat through church, danced when we sang and slept through most of the sermon.  I was proud that he didn't put his cracker in the collection plate.  Then he hunted for eggs at the Easter egg hunt downtown.  He thought it was great fun to literally throw the eggs in his basket.  Such a little boy.

The 18th was our last day at Nanny and Chuck's, which was much more emotional for mom than Ethan.  He blew them kisses and I took pictures.  We're going to visit, but we are also looking forward to the new daycare.  There are 8 other children in his class and I'm hopeful that he enjoys it.  If not, I'll play with him :)  Dad thinks we should start next week, Mom thinks we should start when he is 4!  We'll see!

2/15/06 ~ I've been reading that there are three different types of toddlers . . . those that climb, those that open and remove and those with a fascination to water.  How lucky are we to have all three wrapped into one?

He took his first dive off the end of the couch two days ago.  He loves to climb on the couch, which is not a battle we fight, but we do fight him climbing on the coffee table, up the step ladder and up the bar stools.  He has some scratches on his nose from the fall, but he survived.  We've always caught him by at least a leg, but he was determined this time.

He is having the best time ever with the kitchen cabinets.  He removes the plastic coffee mugs, take a drink of whatever he imagines is in there and tosses it behind him.  He is then on to the next coffee mug to see what he might find there.

And he gave his blankie a bath last night.  Jody found him swishing his hand around in the toilet, which allowed him to wash his hands.  What fun!  He then decided to put his lotion, toothpaste, Aveno cream and blankie in the bathtub while it was filling up.

He does everything with such enthusiasm and such a wonderful smile, that we just try to keep him from hurting himself too bad and take pictures.

2/2/06 ~ He is officially a daredevil!  I went into our bedroom to find him running from side to side up on our window seat.  He would stop occasionally to blow the leaves through the window.  He was so proud!  He then got off of the window seat and climbed up beside me on the cedar chest.  Very scary that he can now get on the cedar chest because that is his new road to our bed, which he LOVES to dive on and around.  If he would acknolwedge that there is an end of the bed we might feel a little more comfortable.

He has started saying "dark" and "light".  He loves to turn the lights off and on and I suppose the difference has been explained so many times that he picked up the words.

He will only eat what he wants to eat, when he wants to eat it.  Most of the time this consists of cheese, bananas, oatmeal and crackers.  If anyone has any great suggestions, let me know.  We're afraid this may stick because his mother is still that way ;)

1/9/06 ~ 15 months old already!  Ethan had his checkup today and passed all tests with flying colors.  Dr. Skaug said he has most of the skills of an 18 month old and that only helps how much Ethan's mom likes the doctor.  We waited over an hour to see the doctor and Ethan was doing his "Wiggles" dance when we finally saw the doctor.  He continued dancing while I talked to Dr. Skaug, but he knew something was up when the nurse came back in for the second time.  He actually told her "no" when she walked in.  Two more shots, but at least we are finished until the flu shot next flu season.  I hope these shots are much easier on him.

He really enjoyed Christmas and has so many fun toys and books to play with.  I keep changing his clothes because he has so many fun new clothes.  He really is a good sport.  We are looking forward to a fun month and hopefully the last tooth will finally pop through ~ 15 and counting right now.  He loves it because he can crunch EVERYTHING! 1

10/28/05 ~ For the record, 12 month shots are no fun at all!  We have spent the last two weeks trying to get over them and he still doesn't feel great.  He is a good sport, but it is evident in his eyes that he doesn't feel very good.  Grandma came to stay with us for a couple of days and to take mom shopping, so she was here for much of the fun.  Thank goodness!  We asked him if he wanted fruit chews and he looked at us and said "fruit chews" plain as day.  Grandma and I just looked at each other in amazement.  He usually just says cracker, tractor, dad, outside, but I think he was really hungry for fruit chews.  We're all for anything he will actually eat.

10/22/05 ~ We spent the weekend in St. Louis with Grandpa, Grandma, Aunt Erica, Great Grandpa Jim, Great Grandma Mary Ellen, Great Aunt Susan and Great Uncle Mike.  Ethan had a blast!  It is hard to guess his favorite part of staying in a hotel for the first time.  He LOVED the full length mirror, the long hallways perfect for practicing his new found running capabilities, the courtyard with flowers and leaves that Grandpa let him walk in or all of the people watching his every move.  He thought we were going to the zoo on Sunday, but it was raining and 40 degrees when we woke up on Sunday, so we thought the mall would be just as fun for him.  He played in the kids area and was in awe of all of the older kids.  It was priceless to see how much he loved it.  I think it was a successful first overnight trip.

9/22/05 ~ After 3 months of cruising around, Ethan took off tonight.  He walked through the kitchen, walked from the couch to his toys and just kept it up as long as I would clap and cheer when he sat down.  Nanny (Neva) said she thought he may have fallen asleep in his high chair today, but he was just trying to eat his corn without using his hands.  He's a blast these days.

9/6/05 ~ HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!!!  Ethan woke up a little earlier than normal so he could wake his dad up with a Happy Birthday hug.  He loves to play with the pillows on our bed and I think he is looking forward to the day he gets to have a pillow on HIS bed.

We had a great Labor Day weekend.  Ethan helped Aunt Erica with the water cooler at the BBQ stand until Oma picked him up.  He had a great time with Oma and then Aunt Erica that night.  He loves to race up the steps and then edge back down.  He would do that for hours if someone would sit and clap for him for that long.

He played at the picnic on Monday.  He thought the parade was GREAT!  He patted Great Uncle Richard on the back as the fire trucks roared by and thought all of the people on the tractors were so lucky.  He waved and waved at them. H e had green beans at the community center, stars in his stroller and his first snowcone.  He watched his cousin, Grayson, win runner-up at the pagent.  After a nap, Mom and Dad took him back to the picnic and he danced and danced to the music.   Life is good at almost 11 months :)
