Jeez... Whenever I need a good cry, I will just come here! No need for Life is Beautiful (the movie). I can't stop crying. Maybe it is because Marissa starts Kindergarten tomorrow as well?!! I can't believe how old and amazing they are! Love you and can't wait to see you soon. xoxo Good luck Kayla!
-Laurie Lazovick     Sep 05 2011

September 2011
Today I watched my little Mackenzie trying to walk on the street with her plastic walker. She was shaky on her legs and too timid to even put her heels down but really getting close to standing and moving on her own two feet. Sometimes she would lose her step and tumble and I’d be there to comfort her. Sometimes I’d help slow her down when I was afraid she would get hurt or go too fast. Sometimes I would intentionally look away (or admittedly get distracted) and let her figure it out on her own. (And sometimes fall then too). There were times when she was really moving and filled with confidence, she would turn back and give me a big, giant smile and I would cheer her on. And when neighbors gushed about how beautiful she is and how great a job she was doing, I agreed with pride. Ultimately, when she was tired, I scooped her up, dusted her off and brought her home in my arms filled with love.
It occurred to me what a profound metaphor that was for the journey that Kayla will start tomorrow on her first day of Kindergarten. Her years of school will be challenging: intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially. She will have to work hard to learn many things and relationships with friends will certainly have their ups and downs. I will always be there to comfort her when the challenges hurt and warn her when I see possible pain on the horizon. I will also try to give her space to fail because hard as it is (for us both), that sometimes is the only way to really learn. And I admit I will probably sometimes fail to pay attention. But I will always, always be there to cheer her on as her biggest fan. And I will also always be proud of her for every accomplishment, no matter how big or small.
Kayla Blake Fiore is truly an amazing person that fills my heart bigger than I can explain. I am certain that she will continue being so wonderfully curious and attentive, making her a great student. She will bring her outgoing nature and creativity to every task she attempts, helping her enjoy learning and sharing that joy with the students around her. And I hope she will always remain as kind as she is to the underdog, seeking the kid that feels outside and bringing them into the fold as she has been known to do several times before.
However the journey unfolds, I will forever believe in her ability to succeed in every aspect of life. And no matter how old she gets, I’ll always look forward to scooping her up, dusting her off and bringing her home in my arms filled with love. I love you Kayla, bigger than the sun, the moon, the sky and everything in between, and wish you all the very best tomorrow.
xoxoxo

Dear Mackenzie,

Wow, I can’t believe you are turning 1 today! It has been quite a year with you, my beautiful baby. You turned our world upside down when you arrived 6 weeks early on July 11, 2010. It all happened so quickly. We had just finished your room then Mommy took a nap, woke up and was ready to go to the hospital. We were so caught off guard we didn’t even have a bag packed. We were so nervous with you coming so early. But about 4 hours after we arrived there you were and like with your sister, there I was in a puddle of tears. I was so stunned to see you. They whisked you away from us pretty quickly because you were so tiny. But I found you soon after and you were all cleaned up. That first week was really hard on Mommy and me. We so wanted you home with us and to introduce you to your big sis. Back and forth we went to the hospital all week. Sometimes Mommy and I both, other times Mommy and Daddy alone. I remember going on my lunch break and feeding you. It was so quiet in the NICU and I remember thinking how lucky we were because you were just tiny and not ready to go home yet. Some of those babies were there for months. You were (and still are) the cutest little thing. Kayla’s party was the next weekend and we decided to go forward with it. It was sad that you couldn’t be there with us, but we did go and visit you that day. We missed you so much. It feels like yesterday, but it has all gone by so fast. They said you would be a little delayed with everything because you were early, but I think that stuff has passed. I am surprised everyday at how fast you can crawl, how good you are at eating, how you are starting to pick yourself up. You are so smart too. You recognize faces now, you smile, clap, blow kisses....you are amazing baby.

You are so different in pictures today. Almost unrecognizable with your round cute face, your 8 teeth and your curls. You are so cuddly and smushy. You give great kisses and I truly love when you just lie down and suck your thumb while you lay on my chest. Then you pop your little head up, smile at me and lay back down. So sweet.

Mommy and I used to only have Kayla in our lives and we always used to take her out with us. I am so happy that she now has a playmate who also loves our family time. Movies, dinner, shows…you are always up for it. I think if you weren’t you would be kicked out of the family ;-) Now on Fridays and Saturdays it is, “Where can we take Kayla AND Kenzie?”

Like Kayla, you have joined the website and while I haven’t been so great keeping up with everything…there are just as many pictures of you too. I think I have captured everything over this past year and I am so grateful to have this storybook of your lives.

Lastly, Mommy and I talked a lot about whether we should have another baby after Kayla. We went back and forth and Mommy and I ultimately wanted to give your sister a lifelong friend and sibling. Whether it was a boy or girl, she would be lucky. Well, I think you and your sister are the luckiest girls in the world to have each other. Kayla definitely hit the jackpot with you Kenz. But then again, so did me and Mommy. We were so wrong when we thought we could never love another person as much as we loved Kayla. From the minute I started crying in the hospital after I laid my eyes on you I knew I was wrong. You won my heart, soul and love at 8:28PM on July 11, 2010. Just like your sister had done 4 years earlier.

I love you Kenzie and I wish you a Happy 1st Birthday. You know I will do anything for you and make your dreams come true, just like you have made Mommy and mine come true again. As I did when you and Kayla were born, I promise to love you, hug you, kiss you, cuddle you and be there for you throughout your life. I will love you always and forever. My heart is yours sweets.

-Love Always, Daddy XOXOXO      Jul 11 2011

Happy 4th Birthday Kayla! You're getting so big. I was thinking about you and you baby sister all day. Grandma and Grandpa can't wait to see you at your party this weekend. Have a very very special day. We love you so much.
-Love and Kisses, Grandma Rose and Grandpa Tony     Jul 13 2010

‎Kayla, 4 years ago today, you came into my life at 10:50PM. You changed my life on that day and I never felt as much joy, love and shed so many tears for one person as I did with you. Then Kenzie arrived on Sunday and I felt it all over again. My girls...I love you so much. Amy, thank you for being an amazing wife and mother and giving these girls to us! Happy 4th Birthday my Kayla Bean!
-Love, Dad     Jul 13 2010

Hi Kayla Bear! I am so happy that I get to stay in touch with you and your family. From what I have read, you are such a lucky little girl to have so many friends and family that love you so much. I kept an eye on Frank for you today at school. Don't worry, I didn't see him talking to any other girls. He was telling me about all the fun he had at your birthday party last month! As soon as I become technologically advanced I'll send over a few pictures that I have of you. So cute.
-Love, Miss Nicole     Aug 04 2009

Hi Kayla,
Grandma and I wanted you to know that we had the best Christmas ever. Having you Mommy and Daddy here with us for 4 days is the best Christmas present we could ever hope for. Watching you open your presents and playing with your toys is an experience for us. You are the cutest and smartest little girl, and some of things that come out of your mouth are the funniest. We love you so much and can't believe what a special little angel you are. Watching you grow right before our eyes is so amazing. You truly are a gift. Grandma and I miss you already and can't wait to see you real soon.
-Love and Kisses, Grandma Rose and Grandpa Tony     Dec 27 2008

Kayla, I'm glad to see that you like dogs now! I can't wait to give you a big wet kiss for Hanukkah on Saturday at Grandma & Papa's house!
-Lexi     Dec 25 2008

Hi Kayla, It's Grandpa. Well it's 5 days until Christmas and I know that you have been the best little angel this past year. So I think Santa will have many many presents and toys for you this year. I heard that he is dropping your presents at Grandma and Grandpa's house on Christmas morning. What we can do is leave Santa some cookies and some carrots for his reindeer. They get very hungry on there long ride visiting all the good little boys and girls around the world. Grandma and I can't wait for you Mommy and Daddy to spend Christmas with us. We love you so much, and can't wait to see you.
-Love, Grandpa and Grandma     Dec 20 2008

I love "So What" by Pink too! My favorite part is "na na na na na na na" and I like to sing it out loud. Mommy won't play it over and over, but I am happy when I hear it. We'll have to sing it together.
-Maddie     Oct 18 2008

Kayla,
It's Grandpa Tony. I just wanted to drop you a note in hopes that you are feeling better. I know you were a little under the weather this weekend and Grandma and I hate when that happens. Let me fill you in on a little secret. Grandma and I are coming to see you next weekend, August 1st! We can't wait to see you. We love you!
-Hugs and Kisses, Grandpa Tony     Jul 21 2008

Kayla,

Happy 2nd birthday baby! I can’t believe that you are two. It seems like yesterday that I scooped you up from Mommy and Dr. Pitman and held you in my arms for the first time. I will never forget that day when you came into our lives. You instantly stole my heart like you continue to do everyday.
I have decided to write down some (not all) of the many reasons why I love my little Kayla Bean:
1.I love how you are the smartest little girl I know.
2.I love how you can sing anything and make it sound so damn cute
3.I love your giggle and laugh and how ticklish you are
4.I love just looking in your baby blue eyes and seeing your innocence
5.I love how much you love Mommy and I and know you need us
6.I love how I can tease you and you are strong enough to fight back and say “No, No Daddy”
7.I love our morning car rides together (especially now that you don’t vomit much). Even when you are cranky, I know that is my special time to spend with you and I cherish it.
8.I love singing with you and seeing you smile back at me and playing along in the rearview mirror
9.I love when I sing that you sometimes say “No, Daddy” because I probably sound terrible
10.I love how you tell me that “Mommy goes to work, Daddy goes to work and Kayla goes to school”
11.I love that you can answer questions when we ask you something and I love that you ask us questions back.
12.I love that you can count up to 16, know all of your colors and can say your full name…amazing!
13.I love all the places we go and things we do with you.
14.I love how you can instantly light up a room with your unbelievable personality
15.I love how much family and friends love you so much
16.I love how easily you can make friends, whether it is a baby, an 8 year old or an 80 year old. You will say hi and smile at anyone and everyone.
17.I love how excited you get over Cheerios, milk, bananas and French fries
18.I love how much you love your school, teachers and friends. So much so that you cheer when we see your school from the street
19.I love how you love a routine…after school you know you want “Cheerios, Water and Sesame Street”
20.I love how you like me to brush your teeth and say “Dada brush my teeth please” with a hand motion
21.I love how curious you are and say “Dada, what’s that?” or “Dada who says that?”
22.I love how you know your limits and are cautious when you need to be
23.I love to snuggle with you and Mommy in the morning.
24.I love your determination to do things
25.I love to watch you play with your babies. You are a great Mommy, just like your Mommy.
26.I love how you steal my nose and eat it and then giggle when I do the same to you.
27.I love how any sports related thing you see you automatically say “Go, Go Mets”
28.I love how you call yogurt, “yogurk”
29.I love how you say “cute”, “tute”
30.I love how you say “Thank you Daddy”
31.I love how you say “Poopie”
32.I love how you say “sit down”
33.I love how you say “night, night”
34.I love how you repeat us
35.I love how much you love your Grandma’s, Grandpa and Papa
36.I love how much you love your bunny.
37.I love running into your room right before bed time while you are singing “You are My Sunshine” with Mommy. You kick your feet and laugh and then I kiss you and you tell me to go “over there” meaning Mommy’s other shoulder to surprise you and kiss you again.
38.I love how much you love slides
39.I love how you give your babies “time out” and tell them “two minutes”
40.I love “Cheeks”—you slapping my face with both hands and kissing me goodnight.

I think, above all, I just love you Kayla Blake Fiore! I love you as the 7lb, 10 oz girl who came into my life at 10:50PM on July 13, 2006, I love you as the little girl you became this year, and I love you for the beautiful girl you are growing up to be. How did I get so lucky?

I can’t imagine my life without you and Mommy and I cherish every moment that I get to spend with you. Mommy and I sometimes just lay in bed before we go to sleep repeating the things you did or said from that day. Mommy always wants to wake you up and bring you in bed just for some snuggles. I think that is how you know you are in love with someone. You never stop thinking about them, how they are doing, what they are doing, are they having a good day, when you are away from them. That is how I am with you and Mommy. You are my life, my love and my heart.
Happy 2nd Birthday!

-Love Always and Forever, Daddy XOXOXO     Jul 13 2008

As always, Grandma and I miss you so much already, we can't wait until we see you again. In the meantime, I put your beautiful Father's Day gift on my desk and I must have looked at it 100 times today. You know what, you get prettier and prettier each time a take a peek.

Dear Kayla,
We are having a great time here in the Dominican Republic, but we are also missing you like crazy. We talk about you constantly and you are always on our minds. But, we know Grandma and Papa are taking good care of you so there is nothing for us to worry about. It was so good to hear your voice last night. You are so great on the phone and understand everything we say. You are getting so big. We are always saying "Night, Night" like you do and we even named a statue at the hotel after you and every night we say "Night, Night Baby Kayla". It sounds weird, but blame Mommy. She picked the statue with the funny ears. Mommy also says "Nana" like you do when she has a banana at breakfast and so we are always saying "Aw, I miss Kayla". Lastly, Mommy brought her alarm clock that has a recording of your voice and we play it before bed and when we wake up in the morning. Hearing you say "I love you" is the best gift in the world. We miss you, we love you and we will be home soon (maybe bearing gifts?) We will talk to you tonight sweetheart.
-Love, Mommy and Daddy XOXOXO     Mar 04 2008

Happy birthday, Aunt Amy! I hope you had a good day with lots of cake, balloons & presents! How old are you now?
