Aiden got his first tooth today!!!! (March 21, 2012) Aiden went in for his 4 month check up last week: he now weighs 16.6 pounds (70th percentile), is 26.8" long (83rd percentile) and his head measures in the 86th percentile. Aiden went in for his 2 month check up today. He now weighs 14 pounds 13 ounces (94th percentile), he is 24" long (77th percentile) and his head is 16" (47th percentile)! Announcing the arrival of Aiden Steven Hooyman Born September 19, 2011 at 10:55am 8 pounds, 8 ounces 19.5" long
At the beginning of July Sid saw Dr. Elliott for a check up and was now 38" tall and 29.8 pounds. He sure has grown since March!!!! Sid had his first stitches on April 16 when he took a pretty scary fall and sliced his chin open. Had to have inner stitches and 2 outter ones. We had Sid's 2nd birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese in Des Moines. Mom and dad, cousins, grandparents and aunts and uncles were there to help him celebrate. We all had a good time!!!
Friday March 25 Sid went in for his 2 year physical. So glad this one was a no shot visit!!! Sid is now 35" tall (68%), weighs 27.9 pounds (45%) and his head measures 19.5" (73%). On March 22 Sid got his snaggle-tooth fixed - his top front tooth got chipped almost a year ago and the tooth started to decay so much the dentist wanted to put a cap on it to protect the space for the adult tooth when it came in. When we got to the dentist Sid hopped up on the chair and took his plug out and showed the dentist his teeth. He let the dentist dig around and mess with the tooth and put on the cap with no anesthia or fussing. He was such a good. Little boy!! Sid had to have tubes put in both his ears this morning because he had so much fluid built-up in his ears. Other than the lingering affects of anesthia, he is doing well now.
Sid's first sentence - "No mom!"
We had to take Sidney in for a CT today and then up to see Dr. Buchi for the results. They were looking at the spot that is on his right side behind his liver that they found at the same time as the CCAMs. When he had his MRI last October it had shrunk some. The CT showed that the spot was still the same size. Dr. Buchi was reassured that this isn't neuroblastoma or any other form of cancer or malignacy. He says it some benign tissue that he will always have there. He isn't recommending anything be done about it - in otherwords, no surgery!!!! In another year Sidney will have to have another MRI to check on it and if it is the same and hasn't grown any, that's it. No more tests, no surgery!!! What a relief!!!! We are all so happy about the fantastic news!!!!
A couple of weeks ago we bought Sidney a big boy potty to start getting him used to sitting on it - and hopefully using it. It is pretty cool - it plays music if he tinkles in it and even has a flush handle like a big toilet. Well yesterday when Sara went in to use the bathroom, which of course she wasn't going to be allowed to go by herself, Sidney came in and wanted to sit on his potty too. So, she put him on his potty and he actually went!!! He was thrilled to hear the music go off! He stood there and clapped after flushing - so pleased with himself.
It is so hard to believe that our little guy is turning one in just a few days. We had a small family party to celebrate Sidney's 1st birthday on Saturday. Great grampa Sid came down from Minneapolis, Gramma and Grampa Hooyman came from Wisconsin, Great Gramma Barb Dennler came as did Gramma and Grampa Carton, Aunt Patti and Uncle Kasin and cousins Ethan and Mason. We had a lot of fun. Sid got some great gifts and really enjoyed his birthday cake.
Had a long, scary night with Sid last night. He got into some peanut M&M's just before 9pm and started having trouble breathing, and broke out in a rash on his back, under his arms and around his mouth 15 minutes later. Gave him some benedryl and rushed down to the hosptial. Discovered he has a VERY severe allergy to peanuts. They had to give him a couple of shots throughout the night and were watching his breathing real close. We were finally able to head home about 4 this morning. LONG night! We are going to have to be extra vigilent about peanuts in the house and at places we are vising from now on. And we will have to carry an epi pen with us at all times for him. That was way too scary to go through again!
Last week Sid had an MRI done to determine what, where and how big the growth on the right side behind his liver is. Getting the MRI done was quite an ordeal. The nurses tried to get an IV started in FOUR different spots with no success. To say Sid was agitated and upset is an understatement, not to mention mom. They finally gave him an anesthetic rectally that put him to sleep within 5 minutes. He was just a limp rag doll after that. They were then able to get an IV started in his scalp. Poor thing. The MRI itself took almost 2 hours!!! It was crazy waiting that long for him to come back out. But he flew through it with flying colors with no memory of all the needle sticks. Today we went to see Dr. Buchi to find out the results. Miraculously - the spot is half the size it used to be and he recommends just leaving it alone for now and to wait and see if it doesn't disappear on its own. So - Sid DOES NOT have to have another surgery, at least for now. YAY!!!!!
Other big news - we just bought a townhouse this past weekend!!! We are so excited. We will be moving to the northwest side of Ankeny mid November!!! Put up a picture of what the outside looks like. It is a really nice area and a great place for Sid to grow up.
Gramma and Grampa Hooyman came down to visit this past weekend. Unfortunately it wasn't a very fun weekend. We had to take Sid to the hospital on Friday night because he spiked a really high fever. They tested him for influenza A and it came back positive. So they spent the weekend helping us take care of a very sick little boy. He has been running a high fever on and off since Friday night and has been very fussy. Unfortunately, this means we have to cancel his MRI for tomorrow and reschedule it for a later time when he is feeling better.
Sid went in for his 6 month check up - he now weighs 19 pounds (75 percentile) and is 28 inches long (95 percentile). He goes in for his MRI on October 12 to have the spot behind his right lung scanned. We meet with Dr. Buchi on October 14 and will find out then when Sid will be having his next surgery.
August 23 we went to Minnesota for the Blair Family Picnic at Elm Creek Park Reserve in Osseo. It was an absolutely perfect day for a picnic and we had lots of fun. Got caught up on what is going on with everyone, played some bocce, had a great picnic lunch. Sid will have a new cousin to play with soon - Bryan's cousin Al and his wife Erica are having a baby boy at the end of October. Sid enjoyed watching the other little cousins run around playing and was doted on by all the aunts and uncles and Grampa Sid. Gramma Deb and Grampa Joe took Sid to the beach, he loved the sand and water and wanted to get down in it and play. While we were in Minneapolis, we got to see where Uncle Andrew will be living for the next few years while going to law school. It is a pretty neat place! His unit looks out at the Metrodome (home of the Vikings) which made Bryan very jealous. We stayed in the guest suite of the condo which was really convenient having gramma and grampa just 2 floors below us. As you have noticed from the pictures, Sid is eating baby food now. He absolutely loves sweet potatoes, but will also eat carrots, green beans and peas. His newest thing now is getting a mouthful of food and spitting it all over. Thinks it is hilarious, he'll sit and giggle after doing it. He ends up wearing as much as he's eating. Sid had his follow-up appointment with Dr. Bucchi a few weeks ago, he is doing great since his surgery. Everything looks perfect. Sid will be having an MRI done in September to see what exactly and where exactly this other growth on his right side is. This growth will have to removed at some point yet this year.
