Jalen cheered for the Lakers..
  - Gammy Goode

Jalen has definitely been a blessing to us.  Jalen is growing up so fast in front of our eyes.  He is now opening up every cabinet and pulling out Sadie's toys, pots and pans, dish buckets, and hand towels.  He thinks he is He-Man when he pushes Sadie's crate and the kitchen chairs across the room.  He even pushed a kitchen chair with Beneta in it!

Jalen also can be very impatient.  If you don't get him what he wants right away, he'll ball up his fists, clench his teeth, wrinkle his face, and scream until he gets what he wants.  He looks so cute that we end up succumbing and letting him get his way - for now.

Jalen is starting to become quite the musician.  From the video, you have seen him playing with his tambourine.  Now, he blows into his gazoo and maintains a nice sound from it.  The next step will be the drums - his dad's favorite instrument.

Jalen is now the consummate "copy catter".  He is really starting to pick up on what Beneta and I, as well as, other people are doing around him.

For example, one day Aunt Joyce was feeding him in his high chair.  I was eating a cookie over the kitchen sink.  When I finished, I slapped my hands together to get the crumbs off my hands.  Lil' Jalen saw me doing this and then started slapping his hands together.  It was so cute.

A day before that, Beneta was disciplining Jalen by tapping him on his hand to stop doing something.  When she would do that, she would say "Ah!"  Sometimes, she would raise her hand like she was going to tap his hand and say "Ah!"  Beneta, Jalen, and Sadie were sitting on the kitchen floor and Beneta was rubbing Sadie's back.  Jalen was being a little too aggressive in rubbing Sadie's back and Beneta told him don't rub her so hard and to rub her soft.  Jalen kept rubbing her hard and Beneta raised her hand and said "Ah!"  At the same time, Jalen raised his hand and say "Ah!" and started laughing.

Jalen's New Words (As of 2/8/09)

Ball (his favorite), apple, eye, ear, hair, earring, five, dog (second favorite), light, toothbrush, woof-woof, ice cream, water, mine, nose, eyebrow, bathroom, bath, lawnmower, purple, door, dadda, momma, sadie, frog, monkey, diaper, no, uh-oh, whoa, teeth, chin, airplane, keys, phone, baby, sock, feet, blue, yellow, cow, sheep, horse, pear, kiwi, bear, lion, duck

Jalen is really coming in to his own with learning his numbers, alphabet, colors, body parts, and other words.  He is quick to let you know where your nose, eyes, chin, forehead, chest, and other parts are everyday whether on his mommy, daddy, lil' Jack, Sadie, and himself.  He knows his numbers pretty well up to fifteen.  He just needs to know how to put them in order.  That goes the same with the alphabet.  He'll point out the letters but can't put them in order yet.  But he'll get there soon.  He is a very smart boy.

Jalen is really starting to pick up new words and sentences each week.  Mommy is introducing new words and out of 5 words, he can pick out the correct one and say it correctly.  Jalen loves his little brother Jack.  He loves to hold him and take pictures with him.  Don't take a picture without Jalen in it or he'll throw a fit.  He is such a ham.  He'll take some of his words and show them to Jack so he can start learning early.
Jalen knows his numbers up to 32 and he knows his alphabet pretty good.  He can't recite the whole thing yet but he knows each letter when someone points to it.

Jalen will be starting pre-school on Monday, September 14th and attend two days a week to get him acclimated to being around other kids his age and learn how to take authority from someone other than Mommy and Daddy.  The pre-school is Celebree Learning Center in Bowie and it seems like a nice place for Jalen to attend.  We hope he doesn't cut up too much but that is to be expected on the first day.  We hope he settles in quickly and learns something and makes new friends.  Good luck J-Bone!

Jalen has finally graduated from the crib and moved onto his new bed (8/1/10).  He has some nice sport sheets for his new bed and he really enjoys his new found freedom.  Let's hope he doesn't start jumping out his bed and running his room throughout the night.

Jalen is currently enrolled in his second year at SHABACH! Ministries.  He is in the 4 year old Eagles class with Ms. Nicole and Ms. April as his teachers.  The teachers say he is doing very well and is well-mannered.  He is also learning Spanish at school, too.  His parents and brother are very proud of him and hopes he continues to be very successful in school.  Over the past year, Jalen has been involved in playing basketball, soccer, T-ball, flag football, and tennis.  He is also finally learning how to ride his bike. (11/12/11)
