We celebrated Lane's Third Birthday early this year for two reasons December is a crazy month for everyone and more importantly Kaleb would definately be in town. The morning of Lane's party we decided to give Lane his present. I wanted to wait until December 21st, his actual birthday, but Kaleb said "I might not be here for that." That and his sad face convinced me. So the boys got their way and Lane got his new bike. Lane was so excited. We took it outside and I just expected him to ride away. Five minutes later "My new bike is broke. I want my tricycle its fast." I was pretty bummed. Kaleb pulled Lane aside and told him not to worry "You think Jesse James never had to modify a chopper." I love those father son talks. So after a few modifications Lane was slowly learning to ride his new bike. That afternoon after naps we had Lane's party at Bounce City and it was a blast! Every since we took a tour of the bounce place he just couldn't stop talking about it "There is my party. Are you going to my party? I want a truck, and a train, and pizza, and dump trucks for my party." Lane ran around til he was dripping with sweat. Then it was time for cake and presents. The next day Lane and Reese loved ripping into all the new gifts. It kept them busy all day!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! The kiddos had a full day this halloween. Lane's BFF, Gracie, celebrated her Third Birthday early this year at Chuck E. Cheese. It was really fun watching Lane running around with all the girls. I'm pretty sure Lane was the only boy at the party but he didn't care he had a blast. Reese wasn't too into the games yet but there was pizza and cake so she was just fine. We loaded up and ran home to squeeze in a quick nap and then off to Aunt Keri and Uncle Brad's for some trick or treating. We had quite a caravan trick or treating. Brady and Maykalia rode along in their strollers. Reese hicked a ride in her pink car with the help of Mom and Morgan. Lane and Cade made a mad dash for the houses. Lane and Cade were hilarious running up to the houses knocking and screaming TRICK OR TREAT as loud as they could. The kids quickly learned no light meant no candy. We did run into one problem the kids kept going INSIDE the houses. That took some explaining. But overall it was a great day. I was really impressed Reese stayed up late enough to hang with the big kids. She just hates being the baby!
Grandmama and GeePa came over for dinner and some pumpkin carving. We have never carved pumpkins with the kids before it was quite an experience. Lane dug right in. He was Dad and GeePa's little helper. He loved scooping out the guts and throwing them. Its not everyday Mom and Dad let him make a big ol mess. After the pumpkins were cleaned out we let Lane pick out a design for his pumpkin. And the adults went to work. Kaleb carved the first pumpkin, I did Hello Kitty of course, and Geepa carved the last pumpkin. They turned out really good considering all of us have been out of practice for awhile. When we asked Lane which one was his favorite he said, "I like this one, and this one, and this one." He wanted us to all feel loved!
We squeezed in a quick trip to the pumpkin patch Friday after school. This was Kaleb's first trip with the kids to the pumpkin patch, he is usually offshore until about Thanksgiving. I was so glad Kaleb was there to help since this is the first year we had both babies running around. We tried to take a few quick shots but the kids just didn't want to sit still. They wanted to roam about and explore. Lane called all the little pumpkins "Reesy's pumpkins" and he tried gathering them all up and bringing them to her. We decided to cut him off around ten. Since Lane is a bit older I thought we should let him pick out his own pumpkin this year, what a mistake! "I want this one, and this one, and this one..." He wanted to take em all! With Mom and Dads help we narrowed it down to one per child.
Reese is starting to show her personality more and more as she gets older. Three things everyone should know about Miss Reese don't wake her up, don't mess with her food, and don't tell her NO. Sound a bit like someone else we know...her Mommy. I love Reese she makes having two small babies so easy. I don't know any other babies that sleep like Roux. She goes down for the night at 7PM, wakes up around 9AM, will take a nap at noon, and wake up around 4PM. And in between all that sleeping she is eating. That girl loves to eat and sleep just like her Mommy! Oh, and don't you dare tell her NO or you'll get an ear full.
WE DID IT! Actually Lane did it, but it was a big achievement for Mommy as well. You cannot tell from the pictures but this turned out to be quite an evening. Lane started telling me he "needed to go"...number 2...around dinner. We tried during dinner, no luck. Before baths we tried again. He kept insisting he had to go so we tried again before bedtime, still nothing. I told him I was very proud of him for trying but it was time for bed and we could try again tomorrow. For two hours we went back and forth...lay down, ten minutes later out of bed to try again, back to bed. Finally I lost it, "Lane this is your last chance to potty!" I not sure if was my stern words or just a coincidence because then HE DID IT! He was so proud. He wanted to call Daddy and GeePa and Grandmama and Mimi and PaPa to tell everyone he did it. So now my baby wears his "underwears" everyday and brings his little backpack with extras just in case. He is so grown. While part of me is very proud of my son part of me hates that is growing up so quickly. GOOD JOB LANE! WE ARE ALL PROUD OF YOU!
As September approaches we all head back to school...Me and the kids. I feel very blessed to have a job that I love and that allows me to stay at home during the summers to spend quality time with my babies. Lane was struggling at school before we left for summer. I thought he was just being a typical boy...a bit overactive, a bit physical but nothing to be overly concerned about. But when daycare wanted to put Lane on a folder to track is behavior I became concerned. As a teacher, I know all about tracking folders and I never thought my babies would need one. While I was upset by this Lane's teachers were always very patient and supportive with me and Lane. A few weeks after our meeting with school we withdrew both kids for the summer to stay at home fulltime with Mommy. I thought this couldn't have been better timing. We would have the whole summer to work on things. Over the summer I really tried to emphasize sharing with his sissy and taking care of her. We also tired not using time out as much but instead use positivie reinforcement. I hoped hearing what we wanted would worked better than focusing on what we didn't. When the kids returned to school I was a little nervous. Lane's teachers said the first week went very well. I told them I was happy but it just might be the honeymoon period. Give him a few weeks to warm up and he'll start to show his true colors. Week after week went by no newsm which is really good news. Then the best words any mother could hear...Ms. Heidi the director of the school told me one day in passing "Over the summer Lane really matured. He is just the model student now." YAY FOR LANE! Lane and Reese have the BEST teachers!
Aunt Emmy came to visit from Miami for about a month, and it was a blast having her home in Texas! Em picked the perfect time to come home. The entire family got to celebrate Memorial Day, Our Birthdays, and the Fourth of July together. It was really fun getting to put GeePa's new deck to good use. Everyone had a blast hanging out back playing around the barbeque!

Seems like just the other day we brought Reese home to complete our family and now she is turning ONE! It has been an amazing year watching our daughter change and grow. Lane has really taken to his new role as a BIG BROTHER. It wasn't easy for him at first, but its tough for any two year old to share not only his Mom and Dad but also his toys. They are quite a pair! I cannot wait to see what this year holds!
Happy Easter! We loaded up the car and drove around Houston once again to see all of our family. Lots of good eats! In three days Lane had five separate Easter Egg Hunts and by the end he was getting pretty good. Now we're stuck with a ton of candy. I think Lane and Kaleb are still on a sugar high!
