Stories 06/21/09. Happy Father's Day! Here are some cute new pictures and a new video for Daddy and all the Grandpas out there... 06/17/09. Caroline had a doctor's appointment recently, and she weighs 19 pounds! She is in the 95th percentile for length, and she is definitely taller than Lydia was at that age. The jeans that Caroline is wearing in the recent photos (the "I'm getting tired of this photo shoot" picture) are the same jeans that Lydia was wearing on page 62, right around the time of her first birthday. The jeans are almost too short for Caroline now, at 8 months! Both girls are doing just great. Lydia is starting to talk a lot about what she wants to do when Daddy comes home. I have been telling her "Daddy is going to come home one day," but she has no idea that it will be in just a couple short weeks! He flies in on July 2nd and will be here until the 6th. A short visit, but one that we will pack full of lots of hugs and kisses and pushes on the swing and visits to the park and all the other stuff that we love to do with Daddy. Yipppeee! 5/27/09. Hi Daddy! We miss you bunches! We're sooooooo glad that we'll get to see you in July. We can't wait! 4/23/09. It's been a month! We miss Johnny more every day, but we are very fortunate to be in pretty close communication, thanks to technology. Lydia's absolute favorite thing (other than getting cookies in the mail!) is to see him on the computer. As for Caroline, she officially became a little roly poly today. She has been flipping from her tummy to her back for a while, but today she flipped from her back to her tummy....and very quickly discovered that if she put the two together, she can roll all over the floor! So much for setting her down and knowing she'll stay in one place! Getting so big, so fast.... 3/23/09. Well, we went and saw Johnny fly away today. We got up early and took him to work, hung out with him by his helicopter for a little while, waited as the guys got all the helicopters ready, and then we watched and waved and blew kisses as they flew up, up, up and away. As we were watching them disappear into the distance, Lydia asked, "where's daddy going?" I told her he was going to Texas, and all I've heard since then is "I need to go Texas, Mama." and "Texas is not far away, mama." Sweet girl! She misses you already, Daddy! We all do... 2/14/09. Happy Valentine's Day! We are enjoying a big pancake breakfast, courtesy of Daddy/Johnny. Yummmm...this morning we asked Lydia if she wanted pancakes, and she said "with SYRUP!" So much for getting away with putting just applesauce on her pancakes! Anyway, we're looking forward to just spending the day together, and then this afternoon Lydia will go to Grandmama/Grandaddy's house for a visit. We hope you have a good day too!
1/21/09. We were sitting at the dinner table before leaving for our trip to Michigan. Johnny said, "Lydia, are you ready for our loooooong trip to see Grandpa and Grandma?" Lydia replied, "No, Daddy. I'm still eating my pizza." 1/21/09. We are very sad to learn that Johnny's Grandpa Parsons passed away last night. We are planning to leave this evening to drive to Michigan for the funeral service this weekend.
1/16/09. Funniest thing Lydia has said today: "Daddy flies helicopters, Pops flies trains." 1/15/09. Caroline is outgrowing her 0-3 month clothes, so today I spent naptime washing and organizing her 3-6 month clothes. As I was pulling them out of boxes, I noticed that they just kept coming and coming! Just for fun, I counted. Caroline Churchill is the proud owner of 38 pair of pants. Now of course, she needs something to wear with the pants, but that shouldn't be a problem since she has no less than 46 shirts, sweaters or onesies. But a girl doesn't always want to wear pants...and she's in luck, because she also has 32 non-pant outfits from which to choose (dresses, one-piece outfits, etc). She can complete her wintry look by mixing and matching any one of her 6 jackets. We won't even talk about the hats.....So, according to my calculations, I should be able to go a full 2 months without washing her clothes. So why am I always doing sooooo much laundry?!?
1/07/09. Conversation with Lydia this morning....Me: Lydia, please pick up that shirt off the floor and put it on the bed. Lydia: Ok, mama. Me: Thank you, dear. Lydia: I'm a deer, you're a moose! 12/21/08. Yesterday, Lydia summoned Johnny when she wanted him to come over to her. She called out, "Daddy, come here boy!" We laughed and laughed and laughed..... 12/18/08. OH HAPPY DAY! Lydia is wearing hats again! It has been almost a year since Lydia broke my heart by refusing to wear a hat. Recently, I had my first glimmer of hope a couple weeks ago when we found her Santa hat from last year. She wanted to wear it, and she kept it on for quite a while. Then, last weekend, we were all getting ready to go to the park. Johnny and I were wearing baseball caps, and Lydia said she wanted to wear a hat too. Fearing that the moment would pass quickly, I RAN upstairs as fast as I could to get a hat for her, and she wore it all morning. Twice since then, she has put on her hat in the morning and worn it throughout the day. Could it be? Could this be real? Should I get my hopes up? Could hats be coming back into our lives? I'll keep you posted, but for now it's looking good... 11/23/08....Is that right? I have totally lost track of the date! We're in our new house, but still digging our way out from under boxes and boxes and more boxes...where did all this STUFF come from?! Lydia is doing well. She seems to love her new play room, and so do I....no more toys taking over the living room! We have met a few neighbors, and everyone seems really nice. There are plenty of kids in the neighborhood, and we're looking forward to getting to know them and their families. Sorry about the lack of pictures, but by the end of the day when we stop unpacking long enough to take a deep breath, all we want to do is sleep! We'll catch up soon!!! 11/14/08. Caroline is one month old today! We are in Atlanta right now, on our way to our new house in North Carolina! Johnny graduated yesterday and is now a real Apache pilot! Lots of exciting stuff here. We are very proud of Johnny...he was the "Distinguished Honor Graduate" and received special recognition during his graduation ceremony yesterday. That means he had the highest average scores of anyone in his class during the entire course of flight school. YAY JOHNNY!!! As for the move, we are VERY sad to leave our friends in Dothan, but we will definitely keep in touch. We will be in our new house tomorrow (Saturday) night, and our stuff will be delivered on Tuesday. So sorry about the lack of pictures, but our computer and camera equipment are all boxed up on a truck somewhere! We can't wait to get settled in and start getting to know our new community....here goes the next chapter...
10/20/08. Happy Monday! Caroline is sleeping peacefully in her bouncy seat, Lydia is away enjoying a play date with her buddy Madison, and Johnny went to Ft. Rucker to take care of some business before starting his final class tomorrow. This is the first time I've been home alone with Caroline...it's kind of nice, and quiet, but I'm not sure what to do with myself!!! We had a good weekend. We played at the park on Saturday, and Caroline made her debut at church on Sunday, where she was admired by all. This is a big week - Johnny goes back to school tomorrow, and Grandma Churchill gets here Wednesday afternoon. Hurry, Grandma, the girls can't wait to see you! 10/17/08. Today we went to the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens with a bunch of friends. Caroline seemed to enjoy her morning of sunshine, if sleeping the whole time counts as enjoyment! Lydia is doing well, and doesn't seem to mind too much having Caroline hang out with us. Toward the end of the garden trail, she was getting tired and told us that it was "MY TURN" to ride in the stroller. So of course, we took Caroline out and told Lydia that yes, it was her turn. That was an easy one...we'll see what comes next! 10/16/08. We're home, we're home!!! We finally got to leave the hospital at 11:30 this morning. Caroline is doing well and sleeping pretty much all the time. Lydia is still at our friend's house, and we'll pick her up this afternoon after her nap. We (especially me) are just happy to be home....that hospital room was getting very small! I'm doing well too, with very little pain or discomfort (a VERY pleasant surprise for me!). The whole labor and delivery, and so far the recovery, have been very smooth and (relatively) easy, after months of dreading those moments! So, here are lots of pictues of Caroline. There are some other good ones on the hospital photographer's web site, which is http://www.our365.com. We are already in love with our littlest Churchill, and we can't wait for you to meet her! 10/15/08. Lydia spent about 2 hours at the hospital with us this morning. Her three statements to her new little sister while in the room.....ONE: As soon as she saw her sleeping in the bassinet, she said, "Wake up, baby." TWO: After a very cute 30-seconds of being interested in seeing/holding her up close (during which time we took the very sweet pictures): "Back in bed, Daddy." (translation: Daddy, put that baby back in her bassinet!). THREE: (when Daddy tried again later to hold Caroline down where Lydia could see/touch her: "Go away baby!" We'll see how this goes once we get them both home......!!! 10/14/08. SHE'S HERE!!! Caroline was born at 11:30 A.M. She weighs 7 lbs 7 oz and is 19 1/2 inches long. Both she and Heidi are doing well and resting as much as they can after their hard day of work. Labor went by pretty quick, they started the Petocin drip this morning at 6:00 A.M. and the rest is history. We'll try to have the midle name up soon, we're still working on the spelling. Look for pictures soon, hopefully by Thursday night. And, don't forget, this is an election year, vote for your favorite girls' web site at the bottom of the page.
