Well, we were NOT sad to say good bye to January as we tried to stay busy to pass the cold winter days by.
Matt had to travel to artic
Minneapolis
the week of the 19
th as the kids tried to fight off 5
th disease and I battled with strep throat. Both kids got the rash that covered their entire body -
Tyler
's rash looked a bit worse but he felt fine and did not get the fever that Riley had.I only kept Riley home one day from school only because the school said that she had a very low grade fever the day before.Neither of them required a doctor's visit or antibiotics.I quickly recovered from strep with an antibiotic and managed to be off the couch in two days.Riley and Tyler sure know how to take full advantage of sick mommy as they seem to drag every toy and every snack in the house out as I continue to pop in Disney DVD and hit replay.
By Saturday the Schoneman house was back to normal and on our regular routine again.
Saturday, January 24
th I held our Daisy Girl Scout meeting at the YMCA as we earned our fitness patch completing exercises and swam for a few hours. The girls were all great and we had such a good time.
Thank you to Brent for inviting us over on Saturday for your 7
th birthday
- we had a great time helping you celebrate!Better luck on them candles next year
J
Monday brought us the beginning of
Catholic
School
's week for Riley.Catholic school's week has ALWAYS been a fun celebration at the catholic schools and each day the students and staff find some way to make the day special.
Monday was mismatch day and Riley had a good time finding a crazy outfit to wear for this. She was VERY adamant that her clothes did NOT match.
Tuesday was dress you best day as there was a special church service in which Riley read a petition in front on the congregation. Tyler and I attended this service, which was
Tyler
's first time attending a full catholic mass.He did surprisingly well and only needed to be shushed a few times. He even got compliments from others around him.We will continue to attend weekday masses together until I feel comfortable enough to bring him to Sunday service.
Wednesday Tyler had a pajama party for story hour at the library.
Tyler
his really enjoy his library story hour, however isn't ready for mom to leave the room and continues to scan the back of the room to make sure I'm there with him.He attends story time on Wednesday mornings and has only completed 3 weeks so far so it's quite new yet.I do look forward when he feels comfortable enough to stay in the room on his own so I can go enjoy the adult library to myself for a half hour every week.
Tyler has been becoming more and more independent from me lately as he grows more confident attending his preschool movement classes at the YMCA, story time and lately I have had the opportunity to substitute teach at Riley's school.Fortunately when I sub for a short time, they let me bring
Tyler
with and he gets to join the K-3/K-4 class and feels especially proud that he gets to go to school just like his big sister.Today he even wanted to take his backpack and before we left he started filling it with books, an extra pair of socks and he even stuffed his blanket in the backpack too and then he put it on himself and wanted me to take his picture. He was so proud that he was wearing a backpack to school. The teachers were so sweet about making sure he had a project to bring home in his backpack to show Riley and I.
Thursday morning I worked at Matt's office for a bit as I will begin some at home work for his company.
Tyler
got to play at Kristen's house again in which he always has an absolute blast and asks me every morning if we're going to the Y or Kristen's house.
This was also crazy hair day for Miss Riley as well.
Friday was the last day of the
Catholic
School
's Fun week and Matt attended their bowling field trip.Riley felt quite proud to have her daddy on a field trip with her and Matt also felt proud that he survived his first field trip!!!
Friday night we had a good time and great conversation with the Klas family and the kids all decided they were going to stay up till
and I think they would've pushed it at least another hour if Kurt and Natalie wouldn't have broke up the party and taken their kids home!Even little Brett who's not quite a year was going strong at
!
The weekend was filled with a lot of outdoor activity as the temperature finally reached above freezing!I even took the kids for a walk in the stroller.
Sunday evening my family came over to watch the Superbowl commercials and the last 5 minutes of the game. The kids were our entertainment for most of the evening.
We look forward to getting over the hump this week as I hear we have warm weather moving in for the end of the week and weekend. Sunshine sure does a body good this time of year and Tyler especially has been looking forward to being outdoors. We plan to take full advantage of it again.Hopefully that groundhog was wrong and we're only looking at another month of winter.
We plan to help Bruce celebrate his birthday this weekend and break in the new
Eder
rec room in their basement - looking forward to it!

Comments YOU LOOK GREAT,RILEY -
YOU LOOK GREAT,RILEY I remember dressing your mom up for these very special days at school! -
Wow, it's been awhile since I've updated here...what's new with the Schoneman Family?
Again, we were quite blessed with a wonderful holiday season with lots of family, friends and food.Christmas is getting to be more and more fun every year as the kids get into the spirit of it more....the decorating, the baking, the shopping & wrapping, the Christmas movies & Christmas carols and nothing tops the season more then their Christmas programs.I absolutely love listening to children sing and dance - nothing gets you more in the mood for Christmas then listening to your daughter rehearses "
The Little Drummer Boy" over and over again.
As Christmas came and went as fast as it does every year...we found ourselves at Uncle Eric's annual New Year's Eve party. The kids came with us this year and enjoyed some hot tubbing and dancing. It's always a fun party and nice to bring in the New Year with family.
Hmmmm, what have we been up to since 2009 started?
Well, my hours were cut at the YMCA and I now just teach 2 classes on Friday mornings, I'm hoping to pick up a few more classes in the future.Tyler and I still go to the Y 3 or 4 times a week as he takes his preschool classes while I attend the fitness classes.Working at the YMCA less has given me more time to use the YMCA more.
I did put my name back on the substitute teaching list at the local schools and even had the opportunity to sub the 2
nd grade class at Riley's school a couple days. She LOVED the fact that her mom as at her school the entire day as did I!I also plan to work from home for Matt's company, TRA, as first quarter is their busy season and it will give me some extra work as well.
So for now, I continue to lead Riley's daisy troop and look forward to working with the girls more and maybe try some new activities now that our troop will finally have some money after the cookie sales come in.Riley sure enjoys daisy scouts and it good for her to get to know other girls as well.
Having a lot more free time has allowed more fun activities for
Tyler
and I as well as volunteering more for Riley's school - whether it's helping in the classroom or baking snacks to go with the letter of the week.
Riley had a great start to the New Year as she got to fly to
Arizona
with Matt and I.Matt had a conference in
Scottsdale
and Riley and I decided we wanted to tag along to visit with Vern and Judy who now reside in
Scottsdale
for the winter months. We call them people "
snow birds!"We're so happy that they are taking full advantage of their retirement and jealous that they don't have to put up with fridged temperatures and negative wind chills. We had a great weekend visiting with them and the rest of the family in
Scottsdale
.It was great to watch Riley experience her first palm tree, cactus, mountains, orange trees, etc.. Riley has very explosive emotions so there was no doubt that she had a wonderful trip! Thank you again to my parents, Kurt and Kari and Bruce for letting
Tyler
hang out with you while we enjoyed some one on one time with Riley.
Riley also started Saturday dance at the YMCA and is especially excited about this session because her two closest friends from school are in dance with her this year. Riley continues to LOVE performing for anyone that will watch. She's always dressing up, dancing, singing, acting and more often then not, her name is not Riley - it's either Rosella, Diane, Odet, Mary or
Bell
.She tries to get
Tyler
to play along as her prince or husband; however he usually turns into a grouchy bear or T-Rex.
Riley continues to do well in school, however complains about going.Every night when we pack up her backpack and pick out her school clothes she tells me how boring school is and that there is too much work. Now we all know that Riley is NOT a morning person, so she never is very excited and happy about getting up early for school, however I usually pick up a happy, smiling girl at the end of her day.She usually doesn't have too much information to share about her day and just looks forward to getting home so she can change into a dance outfit and play with her little brother.
Riley and Tyler's relationship is beginning to grow closer and closer as
Tyler
matures more.I think he's beginning to grasp the concept of imaginary play and he and Riley can play for quite some time now with out interference. Now don't get me wrong, they still have their daily quarrels and disagreements, but disputes are often worked out amongst themselves that or I'm just getting better at tuning them out....who knows!?!?
Tyler
is involved in more structured time now as he prepares for pre-school in the future.
Tyler
will be turning 3 in March so I enrolled him in 3&4 year old classes which he seems to like be with kids a bit older then him.
Tyler
takes 2 classes/week at the Y and does a story hour once a week at the library as well.He really enjoys his class time and is ALWAYS so proud of his accomplishments and gets so excited to show his sister what craft project he made in class that day.He feels like such a big kid when he gets to display his artwork for the family on the pantry door.
Tyler
doesn't feel it's necessary to be potty trained yet either. He does tell us when he's wet or poops in his diaper, but I just wish he could tell us BEFORE he does it!Sometimes when he's got nothing better to do, he'll tell me when he wants to go on the potty or if I can try to catch him in the act.He will refuse his potty time if we try to coax him into it - I guess he's just taking his time with it!
Matt is doing well and working hard as usual. He's been extra busy after TRA acquired another company in
Columbus
,
Georgia
at the end of October. He's trying to make a steady transition between all locations. His travel has been limited as he just arrived home from
Minneapolis
.Other than travel, work and family he hasn't had much time for much else now that the hunting season is over.It has been nice to spend weekends hanging out at home having quality family time with the kids - the once nice thing about the cold winter is that it forces you to stay inside with family when you just don't feel like going anywhere.
Matt and I did enjoy a date night out last Saturday night compliments of the TRA employees - it was a Christmas gift to us.We went to dinner at Mo's steakhouse...which was nothing short of FABULOUS and then headed next door to the Riverside Theater for the Frank Caliendo show which was absolutely hilarious. It was such a fun night out and thank you Auntie Amy and Uncle Jeff for letting the kids hang out at your house for the evening, I think that they even had more fun then us.

We hope you have a WONDERFUL birthday and cheers to a year of HEALTH and happiness! Enjoy the weather in sunny Arizona during these long winter months and we'll see you in spring!!
We love you SO MUCH!!
Sorry for the lack of updates lately, however we've all been busy preparing for the holidays...
This past week we were blessed with a visit from Matt's parents on Tuesday through Saturday as we celebrated Christmas with them. We had a wonderful time and lucky for Riley she got an additional day with G'ma Judy thanks to another snow day on Friday.
We all were provided by great entertainment from Tyler and Riley's Christmas Concerts on back to back nights - Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Grandpa Schoneman got to surpise Riley as the kindergarden mystery reader on Thursday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon Tyler got to go to the store and library with G'pa and G'ma!
Friday we spent the day
shoveling playing in the snow, decorating cookies, opening presents and bowling on the Wii. Yes, I said Wii - Matt got himself/us an early Christmas present this year!!
I'm close to finishing all my holiday preperations as I completed some new Christmas jammies for the kids earlier this evening. It was my first complete sewing project since I was in 4-H!
My sister Kari and I took a 4 week sewing class in November and I was anxious to complete my first projects. I will need A LOT of practice before I make anything that they wear in public!!
We are all doing well and doing our best to stay healthy during this already rough winter. The kids are getting quite excited for the big day to arrive and we are anxious to celebrate the holidays with all my family and carry on many fun traditions and create a lot of new wonderful memories.
We hope you are all staying safe in all the snow and cold.
God Bless and enjoy the Christmas anticipation!!!
Shopping, A Carriage Ride, Baking, Decorating Homemade Ornaments, Watching Christmas Movies, and Dancing and Singing on the bed!
Riley had

special time she got to share with her Auntie Amy.
